The finished product. I had to unscrew the fasteners and flip it to the bottom. I ended up placing mine on the bottom and screwing them in that way because I didn’t like the shelf would be as secure fastening from the top. So one caveat, many people prefer to position the fasteners on top instead of the bottom so there are no visible holes when you’re look at the shelving from the bottom. I placed the shelf onto the shelf mount and it was looking absolutely amazing. I needed to switch to a screw driver to ensure that I was able to securely attach the screws and fasten them. I then screwed the nail and washer into the wall anchor I had just installed. I placed the IKEA shelf mount back on the shelf to make sure that it was still leveled. The anchor goes in all the way into the wall. You don’t want to do major damage to your wall. Make sure you use a Phillips Head Screwdriver and not the cordless drill. I then used my screwdriver to screw the wall anchor into the holes I just drilled. I then used my cordless drill and drilled three holes. With a pencil, I marked where I would need to install my anchors because once you remove the shelf mount, you won’t know where to drill without small marks. I decided to use three wall anchors, one of each end of the shelf mount and one in the middle for good measure. To begin my IKEA LACK shelf installation, I positioned the shelf mount to and used a leveler to make sure that my shelf would be centered. I used three of them, which cost about $3.99. The hardware store owner asked me how many pounds I expected to place on the shelves and ended up giving me drywall anchors that would support up to 250 lbs. I went to the hardware store in Park Slope, on 5th Avenue and Baltic Street, to inquire about anchors I could use. Don’t let the simplicity of the picture instructions fool you. So I headed to my local hardware store after not finding a single stud in the area I wanted my shelf placed. ![]() IKEA insists each wall is different and requires different anchors depending on what type of studs/dry wall you have. When I got home to install the shelf, I noticed that the package didn’t include anchors to mount the shelves. I chose the white IKEA Lack shelve for practicality but I intent to incorporate the turquoise shelve in some way soon. Not only was the 42inch shelf $14.99, it also came in several colors, including turquoise, my accent color. I ventured to the IKEA store in Red Hook, Brooklyn for a closer inspection of the Lack shelving system. Then I saw a few people using the IKEA Lack shelves, which fit in my budget and my decor theme. Some were super inexpensive but the material also looked that way, while others were too pricey to fit in my project scope. The result was a mash up of various sizes and lengths of invisible shelves that ran the gamut. I began looking for a few options on the usual sites, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, West Elm, Amazon and a few Google Marketplace sites. Perusing the plethora of decor pictures on Pinterest, I noticed that many people were incorporating invisible shelves in their projects. That means utilizing the walls effectively. Who knew right? After packing the floor space with a dresser, a bed, two shelves and some nightstands, I decided to decorate upwards. Once of the biggest problems I had with decorating and organizing was running out of space. Since moving to Park Slope two months ago, I have been slowly putting my master bedroom together. ![]() Sigma tau delta eau claire11/30/2023 ![]() ![]() including Sigma Tau Delta, Sigma Pi Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi. I want my brother to play Inmost because it will scratch his itch for engaging gameplay, yet it also has a story that’s genuinely interesting and worth following with more than perfunctory attention. It is a perfect length – neither so short that I was yearning for more nor too long that I would have wanted to hurry to the end. There are three interweaving stories told through three different protagonists this keeps the story fresh and the gameplay varied, never dwelling on any idea or scene for longer than needed. I saw its conclusion in roughly four or five hours because of my inherent need to be thorough (there are baubles to collect, although they are subtly added), and I felt satisfied the whole way through. Inmost does a fantastic job of respecting your time, not just in keeping you empowered in the moment, but by telling its story in a succinct manner. That’s not to say anything in Inmost is punishing, because at the end of the day it follows a logic that keeps you invested in what you are doing. The “A-ha!” moments still feel good, even if you’ve tried your hand at a section a dozen times. This, too, is part of its process, helping you discover your boundaries and how far you can push them. There are checkpoints should you fail, but you’re never set so far back that you lose the urge to continue. Inmost does a good job of instilling not only a desire to explore its haunting world, but also to experiment within it. To an ardent gamer, there are obvious moments when you realize the game is having you solve a puzzle or enter a combat situation, but it doesn’t take you out of the experience because it serves other purposes, too. Everything you do serves two masters the mechanics and the story. Inmost is a little more complicated than that, but it only talks when there’s something important to say, and to drive it home, it does so while you’re controlling your avatar. There are no levels, no dialog and no obvious ‘this is a game’ moments from beginning to end. It wordlessly and deftly has you controlling the hero, and it tells its story within its gameplay moments in a very connected way. In a lot of ways, Inmost reminds me of Jordan Mechner’s original Prince of Persia. It was a marriage of messaging and mechanics. The moment when one of the protagonists tussled with and escaped from a creepy masked horror was when I realized that I wasn’t passively being given plot points, nor was I mindlessly running away. ![]() It tells its story beautifully because the plot is very much intertwined with its systems. ![]() It feels like the amalgamation of our two ideologies melded into something we can both appreciate. To which he’ll say – that’s not a game, it’s an interactive story.Īfter finishing Inmost, I want my brother to play it. Games like Firewatch and What Remains of Edith Finch have that interactivity, they just don’t push mastery of a system on you. “I don’t play games for the stories,” he’ll often say, which is his way of ending said conversation. But I posit that they can be so much more than that if you can get past the boundaries of classification. In his mind, games are the enjoyment of systems and mechanics, and up to a point he’s right – that interactivity and learning is a huge part of it. In his defense, he’s a jaded former programmer who as of late has veered toward the realm of board games. Sometimes my brother and I get into a debate about what games can and can’t be. ![]() Falcon colorado scenery11/30/2023 ![]() The hardest part of the Devil's elbow is actually the climb out from the loop. There will be a very short but steep climb with some more water bars until you reach the turn off for Devil's Elbow. If you're continuing, head right onto the Old Ute trail. Turn right back on the meadow trail and either head to the castle trail to head down or continue with the two last loops. Now you'll have some fun downhill and moderate climbing back to the Tower Trail intersection. Once you reach the Castle trail again, you might as well run Parmalee the other direction. It's probably the hardest climbing you'll do, but it's not nearly as long as the initial climb so with a rest or two, you should make it just fine. Going from this direction you'll have a challenging climb back to Castle trail. This trail has a bit of everything so it can be a lot of fun. There is a lot of traffic on this trail so be careful of riders and hikers. When you've finished the Mount Falcon summit, turn down the Parmalee trail. Biking this little loop in the opposite direction will require you to carry your bike up. You can continue this past the peak and to the meadow trail but you'll have to ride down some sets of steps that could be intimidating, so be careful. It's short but a little steeper than the Castle trail climb. If you go straight up the Tower Trail, it'll get the blood pumping. Tower Trail will take you to the top of Mount Falcon and supply some nice views from a small structure. Stay right past the Old Ute trail and ride a little bit further until you see a turn off for Parmalee and Tower Trail. If you feel up to it, turn left on the meadow trail which is some casual singletrack. This route will shave off 2 or so miles from the ride i'm describing and avoids some steep uphills. You can continue straight on the castle trail and turn left on Parmalee to hit the nice singletrack. Shortly after heading down, you'll pass by a standard open space wooden fence. The trail widens up and becomes very casual and it'll take you up just a little bit more. At the top of the climb there is a nice stone shelter for some shade and rest. Just hang in there and you'll be done before you know it. About halfway up there is a fairly rocky section followed by slightly more technical riding. From here it'll be a lot more consistent. There is a short but steep climb with some tricky water bars if you stay in the center. Now this is where you'll be wishing you warmed up more. Just stay left and you'll see some small water bars in the trail. Pretty quickly there will be a turn off for a hikers only trail (Turkey Trot) on the right.
